System Restore is your first line of defense and can take you back to a point before a problem began like a time machine. If it doesn't help then you can undo it. Read about it first in the tutorial above and then try restoring to just before this started.
If the problem repeats or System Restore doesn't work then check which Windows Updates were installed at Settings > Update & Security > Windows Updates > Update History, uninstall them there or System Restore again, then immediately check for and block the Updates with the Hide Updates tool explained here which I would install now so it's ready:

If you have an .exe installer for the app you try installing it in Compatibility Mode:

If that doesn't help contact Roxio Support for what they suggest for running this app going forward. It is not a Microsoft Product.

I have an old laptop which I did just as you suggest. It did and does work. The reason I credit it to Edge, is because I only showed 2 updates on Sunday (Edge and MS Visual C++). I could uninstall the Visual C++, which I did, and it did not help. But, am I at the mercy of using an old laptop?

Did you try all of the steps I recommended? You won't know whether it's a case of aging-out software until you ask Roxio Support. They should know for sure. If you paid for the software you should expect premium Support.

I have been to Roxio support. I went there before I posted. And yes, I have all the drivers, sign ins, everything they could suggest, except contacting MS Support, which is what I did. I am using a release of 01/21/2018, and yes I did purchase the software (and it is still for sale at Best Buy for $39). I have been around since the floppy drive days (the 7.75 inch not the 3.5 inch). I have owned a 8088, 286, 386, pentium 1 on, so I am not dumb. I did my homework before I contacted MS.
