Funny Spongebob Memes Funny Spongebob and Patrick Memes Drity
SpongeBob SquarePantshas had a complicated history. After being rejected by many other networks, it eventually fell into Nickelodeon's hands and became their flagship cartoon. However, the original creator left after three seasons andThe SpongeBob SquarePants Moviebefore returning several years later.
The general consensus is that the first few seasons of the show are some of the best comedy ever created, while the ones created after that are painful to watch. It's been on an upswing in quality ever since the creator returned to the show, but the damage has already been done. Yet, its debut many years ago has made it a hit among those who grew up with the show.
As it stands, the show's episodes have become a breeding ground for memes. People on the Internet will simply take a clip from another episode and turn into a meme that maintains popularity for months. In 2017 alone, there have been at least five separate memes based on the talking sponge or his friends.
Looking back on SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs' impact on the Internet, we've put together 25 of our favorite memes involving them. If you're a real fan of the series, prepare to laugh your head off with each one.
25 Keep It Off Facebook
If there was any way to perfectly describe what it's like to express an opinion on the social media or the Internet, we'll travel back to an old episode ofSpongeBob.After Flats the Flounder threatens to kick Spongebob's behind, he runs through the town, screaming and pointing back that "he is going to kick my [behind]."
Those on Facebook and Twitter get slammed for posting their own opinions
When the folks of Bikini Bottom turn around, they see an old man and gang up on him. It's not hard to see this at work in social media, as those on Facebook and Twitter get slammed for posting their own opinions. Be careful, as the raging community won't be afraid to teach you a lesson more than once, old man. It doesn't matter how nice of a day it is or how much you love the young people.
24 You Weren't Prepared For That
There's something psychological about why we perceive ourselves as ugly or when we see ourselves via the front-facing smartphone camera. The reason is that we're essentially seeing our faces in reverse and our brains process it as ugliness. Thankfully, Snapchat has found a way to rectify this through their various filters. At the end of the day, it makes us look more presentable to all of our friends.
That said, the moment you turn your head and that filter goes away, you immediately look as "sure" as Squidward. We'd also advise you to not search out any doors to slam in your face, because it won't turn you into a gorgeous hunk. Just be yourself, and if that means that you look like Squidward every now and again, then so be it.
23 Just Buying Time
We've all been faced with that timeless situation where our teachers or professors ask for us to turn in the homework that we didn't do. In order to soften the blow, some people like to pretend that they're looking for it knowing that they will never find it. To be honest, looking for homework that's not done is just as difficult as trying to find a contact lens you dropped on the ground.
It's awkward, uncomfortable, and frightening
Another great meme along these lines shows SpongeBob hyperventilating when he forgot his nametag and relates it to turning in your homework but you forgot it. At the end of the day, any student has found themselves in either situation. Both times, it's awkward, uncomfortable, and frightening.
22 A Glimpse At A Nickelodeon Business Meeting
Nickelodeon has gone through a lot of shows over the years, but onceSpongeBob SquarePantsbecame as popular as it did, they knew they struck gold. It got to the point that the show was constantly being aired, leaving little room for other cartoons. Nickelodeon has even had a history of poorly handling their other popular shows, likeInvader Zim, Danny Phantom, and especially,The Legend of Korra.
All of the shows previously mentioned were either poorly distributed or canceled before they could properly finish. The only show that the studio has managed to keep around isSpongeBob SquarePants. The Fairly OddParentsis still around as well, but it doesn't get nearly as much attention or love like everyone's favorite yellow sponge does.
21 Alright, Pinhead, Now You Get Yours
Sandy's life in Texas is still a mystery, but we do know that she likely had run-ins with several dangerous outlaws, including the infamous Dirty Dan and his cohort, Pinhead Larry. This led to an iconic bit where SpongeBob and Patrick are fighting each other with gigantic snow weapons to determine which one of them is the real Dirty Dan (Patrick won). After all, no one wants to be known as an outlaw named Pinhead.
When Hurricane Sandy started creeping up on the east coast, it was likely Sandy the Squirrel's revenge on Dirty Dan. We'd wager that she had another terrifying dream and was making her way back to Texas so that she could end him and his inferior partner once and for all.
20 Now It Makes Sense
When dealing with a show that involves creatures who live underwater, you'd think that SpongeBob SquarePants would be a little more logically consistent. However, that's not the case, as there are beaches, oceans, and pirates underneath the water. There have also been several instances of SpongeBob and his friends lighting fires underwater.
After all, a tree needs proper air in order to survive
Thankfully, the writers took notice and decided to be a little more accurate in one SpongeBob episode. The yellow sponge goes sandboarding and slides right by a tree that's decked out in scuba gear. After all, a tree needs proper air in order to survive, so it only makes sense that it'd be ready for an undersea expedition. To be honest, many of us didn't get the joke when we first saw it in the show.
19 Oh, The Horror!
As we develop and age, we start to grow into our own personalities and styles. Because of this, we never quite realize how much we change because it happens gradually over time. However, one look at the old family album (or a computer file), and you get a serious glance at how you used to look back in the old days.
Most people can't help but horribly cringe at the unkept hairstyles
While some people believe they looked much better in their past, most people can't help but horribly cringe at the unkept hairstyles, the baggy clothes, or the ugly shoes. It's worth noting that many of us do physically change for the better once we become adults. We just highly encourage you to not look back at your old photos; you may regret it.
18 We Are Squidward
SpongeBob SquarePantshas some of the smartest writing in any cartoon. The first few seasons were filled with snappy jokes that were so brilliantly stated that we can't help but laugh at them years later. What makes this meme so great is that it's not a meme at all, but an actual scene in the show.
SpongeBob and Sandy are finally allowed to do karate in the Krusty Krab, and Mr. Krabs is making a profit from the higher efficiency. SpongeBob and Sandy talk about how much they love karate, Mr. Krabs talks about how he loves money, and good old Squidward chimes in last saying that he simply hates them all. We'll be darned if we've never had those days where we channel our inner Squidward.
17 Why Do You Do This To Me?
Parents have a reason for every decision they make, but they can be fairly unreasonable sometimes. When you're a dependent in their household, you have to rely on them for permission, curfew, and sometimes a ride to wherever you're going. Because of this, it can be exciting when you finally get plans together with your friends to go out. You shower, do your makeup properly, and get everything in order, only for your mom to immediately tell you no.
Because I'm the parent and you do what I say
While we wouldn't recommend screaming at your mother like SpongeBob does to Squidward, it's definitely what happens in our minds. Then when you ask why, all your mom says is "because I'm the parent and you do what I say."
16 The Sad Truth
Remember the good old days when there were mature people in charge of major countries? Yeah, us neither. Decades ago, there was a time when the U.S. took missile threats very seriously and acted accordingly to them. Wars were started, battles were fought, and history was rewritten as a result.
Nowadays, though, our country doesn't take threats nearly as seriously. After all, there are certain individuals (we won't name names) who are constantly playing with the buttons to nuclear bombs, tossing out the words in regular conversation. We've been irrationally threatened so many times that it doesn't even seem like anything worth getting terrified over anymore. As a matter of fact, when the same country keeps threatening us with a bomb threat every other week, it is difficult to take seriously.
15 Nickelodeon's JLA/Avengers
Superheroes are massive in today's culture. Two titans, Marvel and DC Comics, are working to outdo in each other in the minds of the casual audience. So far, Marvel is winning, but DC's heroes are still making a severe impact in the mainstream media. Not only do we look forward to the next Avengers movie but also the next Justice League movie Arrowverse crossover.
Now imagine how impressive this superhero movie would be starring entirely SpongeBob characters. It can't be a coincidence that the show has many characters who would fit nicely in a comic book. Perhaps Nickelodeon has been planning something this entire time with SpongeBob and the rest of the gang. Of course, we're joking, but it's nice to see so many superheroes get proper representation in a phenomenal cartoon.
14 ONLY 20 Minutes
Legos have been one of the greatest toys for both kids and adults for decades now. Like anything else, though, there are pros and cons to having them. On the one hand, you can create stellar and iconic setpieces using building blocks that are great to play with or display. Then you can use the bricks to put together a creation of your own design.
If you're not wearing shoes, this can be catastrophic
On the other hand, especially if you have kids, Legos get left on the floor a lot. If you're not wearing shoes, this can be catastrophic. The moment you step on a Lego, it's as if every pain nerve in your body lights up in an agonizing Christmas tree that can only be resolved by you expelling those cursed toys from your life. That, or you just tell your kids to clean up their Legos next time they get them out.
13 We Had To Get One In Here
The most recent SpongeBob meme to hit the Internet (as of the time of this writing) is the one where SpongeBob imitating a chicken is chosen to represent a silly thing that someone else said. For example, if your friend states that "The Phantom Menaceis my favoriteStar Warsmovie," all you have to do is grab a picture of chicken SpongeBob and arrange it to say "ThE phANToM mENacE iS My FaVOritE STar waRs MoViE."
Of all of these chicken SpongeBob memes, we have to tip our hats to the one shown above, as it perfectly encapsulates meme culture as a whole. The Internet has consistently taken a random SpongeBob picture and effectively created another meme out of it just about every month now.
12 Hello Darkness, My Old Friend
Going to your first homecoming is an exciting prospect. Not only is it a popular social event where you could potentially become more known, but it's also many peoples' first chance at a romantic interaction. After all, going to a homecoming by yourself is simply unheard of. Because of this, you have to find a date and prepare some cute way to ask them to the dance.
Unfortunately, for some people who build up the courage, they ask a date to the dance because they like them as more than just a friend. The problem here is that dates won't always say yes to committing to some sort of relationship. When that happens, all those poor souls have left to do is pitifully trudge home talking about how they have depression. We feel for you guys.
11 We All Relate
There's something extremely cathartic about the first Valentine's Day special inSpongeBob SquarePants. After SpongeBob's Valentine's Day gift for Patrick doesn't come through on time, he gives his old buddy a friendly handshake. As he felt extremely let down, Patrick stared at his hand for an entire montage sequence, unable to see past his own dissatisfaction.
We've experienced situations where our friends have let us down in similar ways
The sad part here is that we've experienced situations where our friends have let us down in similar ways. The only way to respond, of course, is to stare at our hands for hours on end. While many of us represent Squidward the most, it's hard to deny that, in those moments, we feel for Patrick more.
10 The Obligatory Facebook Post
With the rise of social media, it has more than overstayed its welcome. On one hand, it's possible to connect with people from all over the world (for better or worse), but the major reasons the public uses it today is to post all sorts of pictures where scrolling past them means they're going to the underworld. Among these obligatory photos is the one where an attractive girl gets thousands of likes, but our troops don't (no disrespect to those serving).
That said, it's important to remember the sacrifices our soldiers make to protect our borders from enemy attacks. Even SpongeBob and Patrick know what it's like to put their lives on the line for a wholesome cause, being willing to go down with the Krusty Krab before Plankton got his stubby little hands on the Secret Formula.
9 Hiya, Georgie
One of the surprise releases this year was thatStephen King's Itwould be getting a remake. Instead of being a mini-series, though, the book would now be turned into a feature-length film. This originally led to some hesitation, as very few horror remakes turn out good, butIt2017 turned out to be an exception. Being a brilliant character study with some terrifying imagery made for a great experience.
He's just one step closer to actually bridging the gap into our world and terrifying us for real
It says a lot that Pennywise himself would be so powerful, then, that he would start appearing in other forms of media, includingSpongeBob SquarePants. He's just one step closer to actually bridging the gap into our world and terrifying us for real. Just remember, if it happens, you heard it from us first.
8 It Rarely Works
When we were kids, we very seldom understood the financial expenses that went into running a home. Because of this, we've all been in a situation where we would beg our moms (or dads) if we could get some fast food while we were out. Most of the time, we're ready to hear the word "no," but there's that slight chance that they could give us a thumbs up.
The sad part here is that when we were given the okay, we usually didn't have an idea of what to eat. We were mostly just focused on trying to get permission first. Looking back at those situations, it was a lot like Plankton in theSpongeBobepisode where he infiltrates the Krusty Krab and forgot what the next step of his plan was.
7 Nobody Saw That
There are few things more embarrassing than working really hard to get a good selfie posted on social media only for a measly three people to like it. This isn't just limited to selfies either. Any time we put up a fantastic piece of literature, a well-crafted joke, or a great picture and it only gets a handful of views, we can't help but feel an element of shame.
That's the thinking many of us have when we only get a few likes on our selfies
Like most life experiences, Squidward is there to give us someone to relate to. One episode saw him cleaning up the front door of the Krusty Krab where someone had drawn his face and written "Loser" over it. Needless to say, that's the thinking many of us have when we only get a few likes on our selfies. Of course, the only reasonable response is to delete it.
6 Mom, I'm Sitting Right Here
Mothers have it rough. Not only are they typically the ones who serve as the emotional support for the children, but they are also subject to a lot of Internet memes that are surprisingly relatable. Anyone who's been in the same room as their mother when she needs something done or is trying to get someone's attention can easily agree with the one shown above.
It's almost as if mothers think they have to yell even louder when their kids are sitting right next to them. The worst part is that once you try to tell your mom that she behaves that way, she'll either deny it or tell you to go to your room. When it comes to the authority of a mother, there's never an "in-between."
